A Dozen Roses

For Roy, the best thing about being in a relationship with Tim was how honest they could be with each other. Roy felt like he could tell Tim everything he’d fucked up and Tim would take it in stride and still love Roy for who he was and not what he had done. While Roy knew that Tim still kept things to himself, he also knew that if any serious problems arose in Tim’s life, Roy was the first to know. They had this amazingly implicit understanding of how the other reacted to situations emotionally. Roy suspected it was because they had both gone through so much grief and abandonment in their time, they could not help but understand each other. Their relationship was based on that understanding and regard they shared.

So, needless to say, Roy was not accustomed to the idea of being too embarrassed to ask Tim for something. Even in bed they were honest with each other, almost graphically so. It made their sex life incredible and Roy could think of nothing in the world that turned him on more than hearing Tim beg him to do it harder or faster or to touch him everywhere.

Roy’s trepidation did not go unnoticed by Tim, who, while in the process of slicing zucchini for dinner, asked him what was wrong

“Well, it’s not really that’s something is wrong, exactly…” Even to his own ears, Roy’s voice was hesitant.

Tim stopped slicing zuchinni and put down the knife. He stared at Roy intently for a few minutes before speaking.

“Did one of those Soccer Moms at the PTA meeting give you trouble again. Because if they did I’ll—“

“No! No, Tim it’s not that. It’s really not that.” Roy rushed to assure him. The after the first time one of those women gave Roy trouble, Tim took it upon himself to go to the next PTA meeting. Roy was not sure what Tim said to the women, but they all gave him a wide berth after that.

Tim was the terror of the Washington Elementary School PTA. Roy suspected the women would have tried to get Tim barred from the meetings if the man was not do damned good at fundraising. Roy had no idea that selling Shoe Fly Pie could produce that kind of capital. Neither, apparently, did the mothers of the Washington Elementary School students.

“Well, what is it then?” Tim had his eye brow cocked and Roy only had a minute to feel relieved that Tim was not going to wreak bloody vengeance on the Washington Elementary School PTA, before he had to decide whether or not to tell Tim the truth, or to put him off with a fib.

Roy sighed; Tim was smart and would probably realize that he was fibbing. Tim would never call Roy on the fib, because he would probably figure that Roy had a good reason for the fib. But Roy did not have a good reason for the fib. So he might as well tell Tim and get it over with.

“It’s just that I—I don’t know, I guess I miss doing girly things with girls.”

Tim gave him a blank look.

“Girly things. With girls.”

“Yeah, I mean, not like doing hair and nails, but like… I don’t know, have someone play with my hair or taking a bath together or even buying a bundle of roses for someone…”

Tim was silent.

“It’s stupid I know, I’m ridiculously happy with you and you’re everything I could ever want in a lover, but…” Roy trailed off.

“But?” Tim prompted in a voice that made Roy feel like he had to explain himself.

“On Wednesday I took Lian to the park, and there was this couple there. Their kid was playing in the dirt with Lian and they were just lying there under the tree and the guy had his head in the girl’s lap and she was smiling down at him and playing with his hair and I felt… I don’t know. I guess I felt like I missed that.” Roy looked into Tim’s face while he spoke, trying to gauge his reaction, but all he could make out in those dark blue eyes was uncertainty.

Tim did not say a word in reply, just nodded and went back to slicing his squash.

Two days later Roy was watching some mindless television while Lian napped on the couch. He heard Tim come down the hallway and stop at the entrence of the room. Things had been strained between them since the conversation in the kitchen, and Roy almost regretted having it. But he just could not justify lying to Tim for no reason.

Roy suppressed a sigh and tried to focus on the TV. He had placed so much effort into trying to pay attention that he was almost startled when Tim came up behind him and kneeled down nudging Roy into a sitting position.

Roy glanced up at Tim in confusion, but all he could read on Tim’s face was a blank determination. Tim did not say a word to him as he pressed Roy back down on the floor and cradling the back of Roy’s skull in gentle hands as he rested Roy’s head on his lap.

Roy smiled as long, thin fingers softly caressed his short hair.

The next day after work, Roy bought a dozen roses.

I'm grinning! That is so Tim. He would do that. And the image is beautiful. I love how comfortable and honest they are.

I'm glad you liked it. I enjoyed writing this WAY too much.

It's so cute-sy, but I couldn't help myself.

That was possibly the cutest thing ever. Tim approaching his task with blank determination was so pathetic it was adorable, and I love that Roy decided to reward him with flowers. Because they're just that cute.

I love this pairing, and there's not enough of it around, so I fully endorse more writing!

Oh man, it was so cute I had to stop eating the ice cream I was consuming while writing this, because I was going into sugar shock.

Poor Timmy wasn't ENTIRELY sure what was going on, but he knew he wanted to make Roy happy. I'm tempted to write a follow up from Tim's POV.

I'm glad you liked it, and appreciate your endorsement! :DD

Are you a member of royxtim?? It's just opened, and not much is going on just yet, but there will soon be GADS of these boys flying around over there!

I wasn't until you said something! Thanks for the heads-up, it looks like fun over there.

Yay new member! :DD

So adorable!! These two are just too cute for words when their together.
Sep. 7th, 2007 08:23 pm (UTC)
OMG, AREN'T they!? Sometimes you just NEED to write them doing adorable little fluffy things! I feel like I can confess this to you because I'm almost CERTAIN you understand.

They're so cute!

Roy, you're a sap. But I love you anyway.

I suspect that Tim's point of view on the whole subject as well.

Oh man, grinning like a fool here. Wonderfully done!

Thanks so much! Sometimes, cute things MUST be written...

So cute! I really like how Roy and Tim are so confident with each other and how Roy trusts him enough to tell the truth- and the way Tim deals with it. And the whole PTA mention just had me grinning madly. I can just see Tim as the PTA terror. *grins*

I was laughing as I wrote the bit about Tim and the PTA.

I'm glad you liked it!

Awwww... ♥ And isn't it so sad that a guy that likes doing girly things isn't going looking for a girl like me. *sigh*
Sep. 8th, 2007 07:23 pm (UTC)
Oh man, I dated this guy who liked to do ALL KINDS of girly things for YEARS. I have dozens and dozens of dried roses all over my apartment and my mother's house. I have no patience for girly things. I think I'm broken. :((

Aww! This was simple yet so sweet. Those two are so adorable! <3

They're so cute together! I love them so much! :DDD

Very cute, and I wasn't really aware of this couple...since I wasn't aware of Roy and Tim knowing much of each other.

I'm glad you liked it! I think Roy/Tim is one of those things you either really enjoy or you just don't see. It's niche, I think.

Roy and Tim meet every once in a while, I think most prominently in Graduation Day. I think the biggest appeal of them, for me, is the similarity of their circumstances. *shrugs* Have you read the old Arsenal Mini series? That's what drove it home in my brain.

No not yet, I am slowly working my way into past cannon. I like the couple the way it is being done in the story, cause fandom is fun because you can break rules and all.

I do need to read more of Arsenal, he seems like a good character

Fandom is fun that way, and Roy/Tim is ALWAYS a great deal of fun. Should hit dcfic_index and look up some of the old Roy/Tim that was written. There's really some good stuff out there.

Arsenal (now Red Arrow) is lots of fun. But he DOES change his name all the freaking time.
