One Week Later

When Tam got home from work, she found Timothy Drake asleep on her sofa. Sunlight streaming in through her partially closed curtains cast Tim's skin a golden hue. Sprawled out across the sofa, Tim had one arm thrown over his eyes, while the other trailed down to rest idly on a sleeping Prince William's head.

Tim didn't even stir as she stepped into her living room, clearly exhausted from what had been a very busy week of rousting miscreants. Tam shook her head as she kicked off her heels. Barefoot, Tam made her way over the sofa, and settled down on top of Tim. Resting her head on his warm chest, she squirmed into a comfortable position.

Humming, a soft and pleased sound, Tim lifted his arm and ran a hand up and down Tam's back. Tam cuddled in closer and shut her eyes. He was warm and solid under her, and the feel of him pressed against her body was almost enough for her to forgive a week's worth of radio silence.

“I hear you had a pretty rough week, babe,” Tam said to him softly.

“Talked to O, did you?” Tim asked in a sort of voice that didn't actually sound quite awake.

“I did,” Tam confirmed. “She wanted to make sure I got my basket.”

Tam could feel a silent laugh rumble in Tim's chest. She smiled herself at the thought.

“I kept meaning to call you about that,” Tim said. “None of us could seem to find the shower curtain you had, so we did the best we could. Damian wanted to get you one with swans on it. Oracle vetoed that pretty quick.”

“And the marshmallow?” Tam asked teasingly.

“That was Day's idea too, actually. He wanted me to thank you for the things your sent him when he was laid up.”

Two days after things went down at Viltech, a package arrived at Tam's door step. It contained a new shower curtain, matching bath mats, a box of baking soda, dog treats, and a jar of marshmallow crème. While it was certainly the most unusual gift basket Tam had ever received, it was also the most thoughtful.

Tam had hung the new shower curtain up right away and set out the bath mats. The baking soda eventually did remove the smell of burnt rubber from her bathroom, and the dog treats were already long gone. She was saving the marshmallow for an emergency situation.

“Damian's doing better, then?” Tam asked Tim.

“Yes, both he and the Ducati are almost street ready again. I'd give them both another day or two before they're back to business. Though I'm not sure I'll be able to keep him off of it now that he knows all about the upgrades. He claims that since he helped me rebuild her, he now has partial ownership. I told him the Duc was a monogamous lady. Damian's sure he can change her mind.”

“That's good news,” Tam said with a laugh, playing her fingers along the collar of Tim's t-shirt. “I wouldn't put it past him to try.”

“More good news for you,” Tim said, “Vilta's going to be indited tomorrow. I heard this morning from Oracle.”

Tam took a deep breath, not quite sure how to feel about that. She really didn't want to get more involved in this case than she already was. However, if there was a court case, that would be unavoidable. Tam wanted Vilta to stay in jail, and if that meant Tam had to make some public statements, then so be it.

“I suppose I'll have to testify,” Tam sighed, pressing her face against Tim's shoulder.

“I have it on good authority that she's going to to make a deal with the District Attorney,” Tim reassured her, pressing a quick kiss to Tam's temple. “The DA said that if she gave up all the names of the people she sold the Bat Repellent to, she would get a reduced sentence. She agreed.”

“That was easy,” Tam said, surprised. “I thought criminals didn't rat each other out.”

“Vilta only sold the Bat Repellant for the cash. She wasn't interested in taking us out on principle, she just wanted the cash to build up her legitimate business. It was why she was so desperate that word didn't get out to potential investors that her business wasn't exactly on the up and up. She was determined to make Viltech a success.”

“Did you end up finding all of the stuff she sold off?” Tam asked, looking up at Tim.

“I think I found most of it,” Tim confirmed. “I'm sure I missed a few stashes though. It'll be impossible to figure out everyone it was distributed to. Vilta didn't exactly keep records of her crimes. Who knows if the people she sold to, sold any of it to any one else.”

“Did you destroy the stashes of it you found?” Tam asked.

“Not yet, I'm leaving that to the GCPD. Mostly, I just gathered up all the evidence. Oracle plans on leaking it all to the cops after Vilta deals. It should all be off the streets, and the people who bought it behind bars, by the end of next week. Most of it anyway.”

“I'm glad,” Tam said firmly. “I was even more worried about you the past week than usual, knowing that stuff was out there. I hated to think of you being hurt that badly.”

Tim cupped Tam's chin and titled her head up so he could look into her eyes. There was a slight smile playing at his lips, it made something warm flutter in Tam's belly.

“You worry about me?” Tim asked in a soft, deep voice.

Tam lifted a sardonic eyebrow at him.

“Ninja Boy, your life is one big train wreck after another. I'm always worried about you.”

Tim breathed out a soft laugh, wrapping his arms around Tim, he hugged her close.

“How ever do you put up with me, Ms. Fox?” Tim teased her.

“Well you do have good taste in shower curtains,” Tam mused.

“And I did get that blood stain out of your purse,” Tim reminded her.

“See, you're good for some things,” Tam assured her.

“You're so magnanimous,” Tim said.

Tam hummed in agreement, and they spent the next few minutes in amused silence.

“Thank you,” Tim said to her softly after the long pause.

Tam lifted her head and gave him a curious look.

“For putting up with you?” Tam asked. “You make it worth it.”

“For that,” Tim agreed, then added, “and for helping me. For wanting to protect me even though you know I can protect myself perfectly well. And for being nice to my brother, even though he can be an ass. And for caring about a motorcycle that scares the hell out of you to ride. For taking risks for me, even when you didn't have to. I guess it's just nice having someone worry over me.”

“I think there are probably a lot of people who worry over you,” Tam assured him, but that warm fluttering feeling in her belly seemed to expand up into her chest at his words.

“Probably,” he agreed, “but I like that you're one of them.”

Tam looked up at Tim and smiled at him.

“I can't seem to help myself,” Tam confessed. “You're kind of hopeless.”

Tim laughed at that, and in that moment he looked so relaxed and beautiful to Tam that she couldn't help but rock up to kiss him on the lips. Tim cupped Tam's chin and deepened the kiss. Tim's soft mouth played against her, a warm damp tongue pressed softly to Tam's lower lip, and Tam shivered at the feel of it.

When Tam pulled back to look up at Tim, he was regarding her with deep, serious blue eyes. It seemed as if he was considering a whole eternity of possibilities for the two of them, just in that one moment. The look on his face made her shiver again, and swallowed hard around a suddenly dry mouth.

“Motorcycles, leather and a silver tongue,” Tam husked. “You are absolutely the kind of boy Daddy warned me against, Ninja Boy.”

Tim's serious facial expression melted into a smile that had a tinge of smugness at the corners.

“Your dog seems to like me though,” Tim pointed out and kissed her again around a smile.

I'm going camping this weekend so I'll do comments when I get home. Maybe Monday? I will try harder to avoid the bears this time around.

That ending was so cute! Reminded me of a 1940's rom-com. The boy and girl, after battling their demons, get some lovey-dovey time on the couch and express their feelings. It was so adorable, and just what both of them needed! And so quippy. Seriously, I'm having flashbacks to Spencer Tracy/Katherine Hepburn (or Cary Grant/Katherine Hepburn) movies right now.

And I think that's one of the reasons I love the way you write Tam. Because she reminds me so much of Katherine Hepburn. She's strong, confident, flawed, smart, witty, and still feminine. I adore Katherine Hepburn, and I adore your Tam.

This was really fun, and a great change of pace for you! I'm so glad you did it! Have fun on your camping trip, and yes, please stay away from bears! :)

Yeah, I didn't want to write a crazy love/sex scene in this. I just wanted FUN and BANTER and SNUGGLES! I'm glad it cam across that way. <33

It was NICE and FUN and I've been wanting to write something a little lighter lately but I couldn't settle on WHAT. All my ideas tend to delve into DEEP EMOTIONAL TRANSITIONAL PERIODS and that's always full of angst. This was certainly not that. :DDD The stakes were high, but not so high that Tam and Tim couldn't have a little fun.

I had a great time camping! Funny thing about the bears: I was JOKING when I mentioned that. I figured the bear I had a run in with last year was LONG GONE.

However, I got to my camp site at about 9pm. I just got out of the car and hear this almost SQUAWKING sort of sound in the woods off to my left. I keep listening, trying to figure out for the life of me what could be making that noise. Now, I know these woods like the back of my hand. I grew up playing in them. I KNEW that the place where with grouse roosted was about a half a mile down the game trail from where I was. There shouldn't be anything much bigger than a couple of raccoons playing around over there. After a while the squawking dies down and I set up camp and go to sleep. Next morning, I go to check out the area. It was full of tracks of a mama bear and her cub. ALL AROUND the perimeter of the woods that lined the clearing where I was camped. Next day, I talk to a guy who lives in the area, he said he spotted a mother and three cubs playing in the field where I was camped the week before. I didn't get to see them. I just heard them and saw the signs.

The next night I slept in the car...

HAHAHAHA. Oh bears, they are such characters! But boo for you having sleep in your car because of them! (Though funny, I must admit)

I don't know a whole helluva lot about bears, but I think they migrate pretty well. In the last 5 years, the amount of bear sightings in the 5 mile area around my parents house has drastically increased, where before no one had seen one in decades. So I think they found a new habitat. And maybe that's what's going on in your area? Still, it's freaky to see their tracks so close to your campsite!

Aww such a wonderful wrap up. Tim and Tam so needed this sweet moment after their adventure. Love how Tim wraps up how he feels about Tam, how she's able to take on his life, which is very important.

Wonderful job on this dear, very well done. :)

Have fun on your camping trip, hope you have wonderful weather and stay away from the bears.

Glad you liked it! I love playing with Tim and Tam. It's hard for things to get too serious with Tam there to lighten the mood! <3

This was so sweet and funny and cute and I suppose Tam doesn't even exist in the stupid new DC.

So, this will just be a part of my canon where Tim and Tam are happy and loving. :)

I, for one, am going to pretend that she DOES and that she helps Tim with his little Oracle-wanna-be dealie. This will be my head canon. She will bring him muffins in the morning before work so she can make sure he eats at least SOMETHING, then bully him into bed before leaving for the office. <3
